Possibly the most spectacular gay engagement shoot on a Cornish beach EVER, shot on digital (the sony A9iii) and 35mm film with my beloved Leica MP.
When I met these two to discuss their wedding plans, I knew I'd met some kindred spirits. We laughed so much, felt like we'd been friends for years immediately, and got that wedding day booked in FAST. I was over the moon to be getting such a gorgeously in love, genuinely wonderful couple on my books, but when I mentioned the complimentary engagement shoot all my couples get and they said they wanted to go full 'Vogue magazine', I really knew that we'd make some magic happen.
Despite the brief and the fact they rocked up with a chair (genius idea btw boys!) they were actually super nervous. Who isn't?! I don't think I've ever had a couple walk through my doors (so to speak) who isn't camera shy or outright body dysmorphic and convinced they're the most un-photogenic human to ever stare down my lens - and to date all of that fear and anxiety lasts about 10 seconds with me on a beach somewhere before their true self starts to shine and I start to capture authentic, loved up, playful and free moments, posed and unposed. This magical afternoon on the beach with Luke and Sam was no different.
Where this absolutely beautiful gay engagement shoot REALLY stood out for me was in their openness to being a bold and creative as I liked - no holds barred. They came to SLAY. Lay in the sea? YES! Sit on a chair IN the sea? HELL YES! Kiss and spin and run around and get fully 100% IN THE ATLANTIC? ABSOLUTELY! Their faith in my vision was a really beautiful thing to feel for me personally - and their connection was radiant.
Vulnerability, intimacy, playfulness, unapologetic 'this is US' ness... this editorial pre-wedding photoshoot had it ALL and more. And I even shot some 35mm film for kicks. I mean, if we're gonna do it we might as well do it right, right?!
These two angels (and I mean that, you really couldn't meet two sweeter, kinder human beings!) have a very special place in my heart after this - and, was the perfect warm up for their EXCEPTIONAL wedding day, which I'll blog here soon so stay tuned! Proof in my books that two grooms are definitely better than one, and love, in all its colours, shades, creeds and genders, is always pure JOY to witness and an honour to capture if it's real, and if the couple in front of me trust the process (which, thankfully, all of my clients always do!).
